Balancing Your Energy With Guided Chakra Meditation
Chakra meditation is a powerful practice that can bring balance and harmony to your mind and body. There are seven places in the body believed to hold energy that can support mental and physical well-being when they are the focus of specific practices. By focusing on the seven energy centres within the body, you can create mental and physical peace and balance. Starting a new meditation routine can be daunting, but by learning these gentle tips and setting aside ten minutes a day, you can balance your chakras and feel calmer, one step at a time.
What are Chakras?
Chakras are the energy centres in the body that relate to the energy and function of different organs and emotions. There are seven main chakras located along the spine, from the base to the crown of the head. Certain body areas and colours are used as symbols to help focus meditation and concentration on each Chakra. Meaning that each chakra relates to a specific colour, feeling, and sound. When all seven energies are balanced, you feel well and balanced. As a result, when there is imbalance, you will feel emotional and stuck.
There Are Seven Main Chakras
-
The Root Chakra (Muladhara)
The Root Chakra is the lowest of the seven chakras and is at the base of the spine. Because of its closeness to the body’s foundation when sitting, it is associated with stability, grounding, and security. When pictured during meditation or represented by crystals, stones, or other items, it is always a vibrant, fiery red. Any imbalance of this chakra is often associated with feelings of insecurity, physical imbalance, or lower back pain. As a result, if you have imbalances or lower back pain, yoga for the root chakra or meditation on this chakra may help rebalance.
-
The Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)
The Sacral Chakra is located directly below the navel and is linked to creativity, sexuality, and emotional expression. This is because of its closeness to the reproductive organs. It is often represented by orange stones or crystals. Imbalance with the Sacral chakra may lead to low energy levels, emotional blockages, or feelings of emptiness and creative unfulfillment.
-
The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
This Chakra is located in the stomach area. It is associated with digestion, confidence, and personal power. Known by the colour yellow, with imbalances often manifesting as digestive issues and low self-esteem, leading to fatigue and low mood.
-
The Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Is Located at the centre of the chest, unsurprisingly over the heart. This chakra is connected to love, connection, compassion, and emotional balance. Its colour is lucid green, and imbalance may cause emotional difficulties, chest tension, social withdrawal or loneliness.
-
The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
Is again unsurprisingly located at the throat and linked to communication and self-expression. Its colour is blue, associated with calm and communication, and imbalance may result in difficulty expressing your thoughts, feeling silenced, an inability to speak up for yourself, or throat-related issues.
-
The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
Is located between the eyebrows, a little above but between your eyes, often referred to as the third eye. It is associated with intuition, insight, forethought and mental clarity. Its colour is a beautiful indigo, and imbalance may cause confusion, lack of clarity, or headaches.
-
The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
Is located at the top of the head. This is where the body is connected to spiritual awareness and enlightenment. Its colour is bright violet or clear white. Any imbalance in this chakra can lead to feelings of disconnection, a lack of purpose, and a loss of drive.
The Benefits of Chakra Meditation
Chakra meditation can have a profound impact on your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. By focusing on each chakra individually and using visualisation and breathwork techniques, you can release blockages and align the energy within your body. As a result, some of the benefits can be:
- An increase in physical energy and vitality.
- Improved mental clarity and focus.
- Mood grounding with emotional stability and balance.
- A greater connection to your intuition and inner wisdom.
- Gradual healing, or improvement of physical ailments and pain.
How to Practice Chakra Meditation
To begin practicing, find a quiet and comfortable space where you can relax and focus. Start by sitting or lying down in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths to center yourself. Then, focus your attention on the base of your spine, where the first chakra, known as the root chakra, is located.
Visualize a bright red light at the base of your spine, and imagine this light growing brighter and stronger with each breath you take. As you focus on this energy center, repeat the corresponding mantra, “I am grounded and secure,” to help balance and activate the root chakra.
Continue this practice for each of the seven chakras, moving up the spine from the root to the crown of the head. As you work with each energy center, notice any sensations or emotions that arise, and allow yourself to release any tension or blockages you may be holding onto.
